Hi lovely readers. Can you already tell that I'm in the mood for Halloween? Today I really wanted to do the seven deadly sins tag. Now I'm not really tagged by anyone in particular but I saw this tag over on Izzy's bookblog and I was totally into it. So here it goes (: 

Greed: What is the most expensive book in your library and what is the least expensive? 

One of the most "expensive" books on my bookshelves will have to be Alice's adventures in Wonderland and other stories by Lewis Carroll and John Tenniel. The book was not too expensive, because the cover and artwork are just so amazingly beautiful. Totally worth the money! As for my least expensive book, it is yet again a Alice in "wonderland" kind of book. Through the zombie glass by Gena Showalter. I bought the E-book, which was so inexpensive - maybe also because it's not really a popular book- but I was really happy with the deal (:

Wrath: Which author do you have a love/hate relationship with? 

No idea at all! Uhm. /stares at her bookshelf/ Probably Marissa Meyer. I love the idea of fairytale retellings, but I just couldn't get into the book. I only have read Cinder and I have heard a lot of good stories about the other books in the serie. But I just can't really get myself to read these books. I just didn't really enjoy the writing of the first book, or I just wasn't really attached to the main character. 

Gluttony: What book have you deliciously devoured over and over again, with no remorse whatsoever? 

 The Hunger games, Harry Potter and The Fault in our stars. I don't really reread books that often. Since I already know what will happen, I don't like to read it again. The thrilling aspects of the book have lost its power. Yet the only reason why I like to reread books is for school assignments. Which I unfortunately get way too often. 

Sloth: What book have you neglected reading due to laziness? 

I did not neglect this book because of laziness, not at all. But because I just really didn't enjoy the story nor the writing of the book. For this question I'll have to go with Brazen by Katherine Longshore. I really wanted to like this book, since I heard a lot of great things about it. But it just didn't fully grab my attention and just was not what I expected at all. I will read it sometime, but I think I will let it rest on my shelf for some time to be entirely honest. 

Pride: What book do you most talk about in order to sound like a very intellectual reader.

I have not read any book that would make me an intellectual reader, for as far as I'm concerned. But I have read Atonement by Ian McEwan and Pride and Prejudice  by Jane Austen. So I guess books that make you feel really intellectual for me are classics, writers like Jane Austen and Shakespeare. And a lot of boring, Dutch books I had to read for school on which I had to write papers. 

Lust: What attributes do you find most attractive in male or female characters? 

I know almost everybody says this. But for female characters I like the bad-ass, independent type. One thing that really annoys me, is when the main, female character is weak and emotional. As for the male characters: Cole Holland in the White rabbit chronicles, Noah Shaw in the Mara Dyer trilogy, Boys who are really mysterious but yet caring, who are funny and responsible. ^-^

Envy: What books would you most like to receive as a gift? 

Any book will do really. But if I really have to choose I would pick some horror/thriller books. I'm always up for a thrill. As for Christmas/birthday gifts I like to receive box sets. I'm still eying the special edition Harry Potter box set. /puppy eyes/

What I thought 

Even though I have read this quite a long time ago, the story is still wondering in my mind. It was absolutely amazing! Finding this book on goodreads with many mixed reviews, I became really curious about this novel. So I gave it a try. And I'm so glad I did! 

One thing about this book that absolutely blew my mind was the amazing depicture of the ages the story took place. Now the time period is actually never really revealed, but the very religious town, for me, hints at Colonial America.  Which was so interesting since this is not a common time period for YA, at least I haven't really read anything like this. The time period is very important to this story. Judith was treated so terribly, as if she were to blame for what happened to her. Due to the religious and superstitious town. If this had happened in the 21ste century I think this story would have gone differently. Everybody either ignored her or despised her. I found myself sympathize with her, since we get to know all the secrets about the crime, I just didn't understand how those blind people didn't see what actually happened. For example, I was so mad at her mother. Who had grown cold hearted towards her own daughter! Ok, Judith's father died while she was missing and her mother blames Judith for this. But that's not a reason to treat your own daughter so miserably 

I see why people don't like this book or can't really get themselves to read it. In the beginning of the book, we as readers don't really know what is going on. But Julie Berry drops subtle and sudden clues to what actually happened and what the book actually is about. I actually didn't read the back, only some reviews, so I was absolutely clueless when first reading this book. But I found that rather amusing and thrilling. 

This book was so beautifully written and the story was really amusing. This book is as thrilling in finding out what happened, as it is a beautiful and sweet love story unlike any other romance we find in YA these days. 

If you haven't read this book yet, I can definitely recommend this. Not able to put the book down at any time, I read this in literally one sitting. And I regret nothing. Absolutely an amazing book!

The fall book tag

Hi guys. During this week the weather has started to cool down, rain is pouring and the wind is blowing like crazy. It is definitely autumn in the Netherlands. Which means chai teas and cozy sweaters. And...Halloween! October is going to be an amazing month, and eventhough the month has already started and we're already 9 days into this month, I still wanted to kick of with a book tag. I haven't been tagged by anyone in particular, but I still wanted to do it because I thought it was a lot of fun. I hope you'll enjoy (:

The questions

1. Crunching leaves: Choose a book you have read that has a red/orange/yellow cover. 






For this question I have chosen Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. Now it has been a while since I have read this book, but for what I can remember I really enjoyed it. It is de sequel to Delirium. The story follows Lena, who lives in a world where people believe love to be the deadliest disease. Love is a curse and needs to be cured. Luckily for Lena she will be cured relatively soon. But during that time, she falls in love. I absolutely loved the first book and I thought the second one was good too, but the first one was definitely better in my opinion.










2. Sweater weather: What book keeps you warm? 








A book that I have totally devoured was The fifth wave by Rick Yancey. I have read this book in one sitting. The story, the characters, I found this book to be really clever and captivating. I absolutely loved this and it kept me thinking about it for a long time. I couldn't put it down before I had finished the entire book. This book is definitely up there, and I'm actually kind of scared to read the sequel since I'm afraid it won't be as good as the first book. 











3. Fall storm: Choose your favorite book or genre that you like to read during the colder months. 
You probably already see this coming, but my favorite genre is horror or thriller/suspense. No matter if it is the classig Dracula or Frankenstein, or a more recent YA horror or thriller book. I'm always up for a little scare. The colder months are the best for reading steampunk/horror/thriller and puts me in a great mood. Now a bit of vampires and blood is also appriciated. So definitely the more angsty books. 




4. Cool crisp air: Who is the coolest character you'd want to trade places with? 
A bad-ass character I always wanted to be is actually really difficult for me to choose, since there are quite many. Katniss Everdeen or Alice Bell for instance are characters I loved. They kicked some ass and where strong and indipendant. I didn't find them really annoying. So I'd like to one of them. 






5. Hot apple cider: What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest book? 





All the truth that's in me by Julie Berry. I haven't heard anything about this book and that's sad. This book is absolutely beautifully written and the plot was really interesting. I really enjoyed this book, it was really good and kept me thinking. Sometimes I didn't follow the story that well, I was pretty thrown offguared but it was a great book. Also the main character was amazing and strong. Definitely recommend this book! 












6. Warm,cozy bonfire: What book did you think you didn't like but fell in love with? 






Yet again a hard question. My friend told me about the Vampire acedamy series by Michelle Read. I was really sceptical at first, because not having finished the Twilights series because of the annoying main character, I wasn't really looking forward to read yet another vampire story. At this point the only good book I had ever read about vampires was Dracula by  Bram Stoker. But it was actually a pretty good series. I have only read the first two books, but already the series is really good. But I have to say the Dutch covers are way more beautiful. 










7. Frigthnening evenings: What book is your favorite scary book/ what scary book would you like to read next? 

I can't wait to finally read either The Merciless by Danielle Vega or Between the devil and the deep blue sea by April Genevieve Tucholke. Both are super promising and supposed to be scary/thrilling. But first I need to finish a book for my upcoming English test. (:

5 Most anticipated books.

Hi lovely readers. So today I wanted to share the books I'm most looking forward to. Some will be new releases and some will be books I have been wanting to read for ages.

 1. The first book on the list is the Merciless by Danielle Vega. I have been wanting to read this book for a quite a while now. As I have mentioned before, I like scary things. So I hope this book will be right up my alley. It is said to be a thriller/horror YA book. Summary: Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream. Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed. Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation.   2. Number two is Schizo by Nic Sheff.  One of the subgenres in literature I absolutely love is "unreliable narrator" and mental ilnessess. This book is a mix of both. I'm so intrugued by the summary and really looking forward to read this book one day. Summary: Miles is the ultimate unreliable narrator—a teen recovering from a schizophrenic breakdown who believes he is getting better . . . when in reality he is growing worse. Driven to the point of obsession to find his missing younger brother, Teddy, and wrapped up in a romance that may or may not be the real thing, Miles is forever chasing shadows. As Miles feels his world closing around him, he struggles to keep it open, but what you think you know about his world is actually a blur of gray, and the sharp focus of reality proves startling. Written by the New York Times bestselling author of Tweak, Schizo is the fascinating, and ultimately quite hopeful, story of one teen's downward spiral into mental illness as he chases the clues to a missing brother. 

 3. I'm still in high school and looking for something t major in. Fashion has always been one of my interests, and Nastygal is definitely a store that I really like. So when Sophia Amoruso came out with this book about being a ambitious young women, I was already hooked. #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso is definitely my number three. 

4. And here we go again. Number four on the list is Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Mystery, murder, angst. Three things I love in books. Really looking forward to this book as it is said to be unrealiable narrator aswell. I couldn't ask for more. Summary: On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. 4. Finally! After all the anticipation comes the final and hopefully epic ending of the White Rabbit Chronicles. One of my favorite series of all time. The queen of the zombie hearts by Gena Showalter was realeased on the 30th of September. I actually made a review about the first book of this series, so if you'd like to check that out aswell, just click on the review list above. Summary: In the stunning conclusion to the wildly popular White Rabbit Chronicles, Alice "Ali" Bell thinks the worst is behind her. 11 facts about me. 

It is so hard to think of 11 interesting facts, but I'll try my best (: 

~ The first ever series that I totally loved was The Hunger Games

~ I actually didn't like the Harry Potter books until I was able to read them in English. 

~ Even though thrillers and horror films scare me quite a bit, I still love them. 

~My most favorite bands are Alt-J, the 1975, the Neighbourhood and Arctic Monkeys. 

~ There are way more bands that I absolutely love, but the list is so long!

~ I'm currently watching the Vampire Diaries season four, and I'm absolutely annoyed by Elena

~ I can't watch films to many times, but the film Season of the Witch I have watched over five times already. 

~ I can't stand romantic comedy films, 

~ If I had to pick a book I'd recommend to anyone I'd probably chose All the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr

~ I love to write but I'm still having a major writer's block. 

~ One thing I absolutely love doing is travelling.

                  Why did you start to blog?

Since high school I really wanted to make a blog. Blogging nowadays is such a huge thing, I was curious about what it actually was. And since I love books and recommending great books to people, I thought why not give blogging a go. My greatest passion definitely is fashion, so I'm really hoping to branch out as a fashion blogger, but school is my main priority. 

                    Recommend three of your favorite books.

       Three of my favorite books are definitely All the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr, Paper towns by John Green and The Fifth wave by Rick Yancey (?)  - it was really hard to just pick three books!- 

                                                                                      

                             Who is your favorite author? And why?

      I don't have a favorite author. But an author I find myself reading the most is definitely John Green. I love his writing. For me, he just portrays the thoughts of adolescents so well! I can relate to the characters, the stories are gripping and I can read the books in one sitting. The fault in our stars I've read in just a day. Because I thought it was so amazing! So if I had to pick an author, whom I really like, it is John Green. 

        Which books do you want to be turned into a movie/tv show? And do you have a cast in mind?

Don't get me wrong, I love watching tv-shows and films, but I prefer reading books. If there is a book that I absolutely love, I would not want it to be turned into a movie. Just because I don't want my interpretation to be destroyed. But there are exceptions, such as Warm bodies, the Hunger Games and Harry Potter obviously. But I can't really think of any book I'd really want to be turned into a movie just now. 

Name a book that disappointed you. 

As you may have noticed, in the sidebar of my blog you can find a badge with the book I'm currently reading < which is Brazen by Katherine Longshore>  I'm 378 pages into the book, but I just can't go on with it. I'm not intrigued by it anymore and I don't feel the need to continue. For me it is a let down, not only because the book is so slow-paced but also because I don't like the main character. Probably not going to finish this book in the near future. Please let me know in the comments down below if you would like to see a review once I have finished it!

  From all the series you’ve read so far, which do you think has the best ending? 

I really liked the ending of the Hunger Games, the chemical garden trilogy and shatter me. 

if you had to live in a dystopian world (yes, a dystopian world) which world would it be? 

               I don't read a lot of dystopian books, so I'll have to go with Reboot by Amy Tintera.

                   Wren was one of my favorite characters, she was so badass and I really liked the fact that she               was some sort of zombie with super powers. Now I wouldn't want to be working for HARC,                   but maybe it would be cool to be a zombie with those super powers. 

              If you could have any item from a book, what would it be? And no, you can’t choose a wand.          Obviously I would choose a wand, like of course I would, duh! - no just kidding- I would                     actually go for the magical blanket (?) from Harry Potter, so I can be invisible when I'd                      want to be. Some situations in daily life just scream "make me invisible please"

           If you could ask any author any question, who and what would you ask?

                   I would love to meet Carry Slee. A Dutch author whom I have done a presentation about                in primary school. I was obsessed with her books at the time and I absolutely loved                            her writing. So at the time I  would ask Carry Slee what had inspired her to begin                             writing books and if she would have any tips for people who would like to start                                    writing as well. But right now, I'd probably ask something like "what is life like for a                              writer?"

                    

           How do you spend your free time?

             I love to draw and write poems. Also the first thing that I do on a Saturday and sunday morning is go on a 10 km run. But mainly it is just working out, drawing and going on the internet (write reviews, watch some netflix)

What I thought: 

The Iron Trial was in my opinion a very clever and interesting fantasy book. Even though it’s middle-school, it felt as if I were reading a YA book. Cassandra Clare and Holly Black have done a beautiful job in portraying the characters and the world. I loved the magical concept. Whereas most books I have read about magicians and magic would feature a lot of spells and magic potions, this book was about the five elementals - water, wind, fire, air and chaos.

It was hard to put the book down, but due to a lot of exams I just had too. The story about Callum Hunt and his mission to fail at something he is finally good at kept me so on edge. The book has a lot of plot twists. It kept me guessing and wanting to get to know what Callum’s secret was –since even Callum didn’t know-

The book is really fast paced. Beginning with a sad prologue featuring Callum’s father, the book continues with the beginning of the trial. To eventually lead to the further explanation about the gripping prologue.  I thought this book was quite angsty – as far as middle-school can get angsty- and it contained a lot of interesting scenes of Callum and his team members completing tasks. Reading this book was a lot of fun and made me scream a little inside. Especially when Callum’s secret finally is revealed.

Something about Callum’s character I absolutely loved, was the fact that he was physically disabled (partly) Most main characters in books are perfect, bad-ass, reckless people. Not Callum, which made me happy. It displays that every person has the same chance to shine. You don’t have to be athletic, beautiful or clever to make it out there. Just be yourself.  

I absolutely loved this book and definitely recommend it. Don't be fooled by it being a middle-school book. Because to me it didn't feel like reading middle-school. The plot and the characters were so interesting and amazing. Also the writing was fantastic. 

Bonus; the book contains the questions Callum and the fellow students got during the first test of the trial. It was so much fun to try to awnser the questions. Totally looking forward to the next book that will probably come out in September 2015. 

 My spoilery thoughts: Please read the book first before reading this segment. 

Before we found out Aaron is the Makar in the story, I was absolutely sure that Callum would be the Makar. To me it made so much sense, because of his father wanting him not to go to the Magisterium in the first place.  

I was really into the book, it kept me guessing - something I think really makes a good book, to make the reader curious and wanting to read the whole story. The concept was very interesting. Growing up my favorite cartoon was Avatar the last air bender. The five elementals made me think of Avatar. I was always so curious about the whole concept about the elementals, so to me the concept of the magic was absolutely amazing. The only downside though was that the performing of the magic wasn’t really detailed, because obviously how are you going to describe the process of doing magic detailed. But it wasn’t annoying.

The scene in the old bowling centrum was amazing. After finding out Constantine Madden was never behind the silver mask, it really got me thinking who the enemy of death actually would have to be. Since Constantine’s soul was living inside of Callum Hunt’s body, the enemy of Death could never be Constantine Madden.

For me it was a shock to find out Callum was the “enemy of death”. Now I did think Callum would be the Makar, but I never ever thought about Callum being the enemy of death. So this was really thrilling and exciting to find out. It really makes the story so much more interesting.

I’m really looking forward to read more about Callum and him being the Enemy of Death.

What I thought

Overall this book was great. I really enjoyed this book and I will most definitely continue reading this series. Sarah Beth Durst writing was good and funny. Eventhough this book does contain a serious subject, she carried it lightly. Whereas I cry reading John Greens "The Fault In Our Stars" <In which John Green obviously wants the reader to feel all emotions> I didn't cry reading the Lost.  Eventhough this book contains the same subject <only in the Lost it's not the main subject, it's a second story woven into the story itself>.

I gave this book four out of five stars, just because I'm still confused about the world Sarah Beth Durst has created. I really liked this book, the story and the characters, but I would have changed some tiny things. The first thing I wanted to talk about are the characters. 

Sarah Beth Durst has done an explicit job of creating characters and mapping out the world. In my imagination it just all makes sense as far as looks go. Lauren was a funny girl and not as naive as some girls can be in young adult books. The other main characters <Claire and Peter> where lovely decribed and seemed so nice aswell. 

The only thing that I found quite annoying was the way Lauren sometimes handled situations. Now I don't know how I would handle the situations and I'd probably react the same way Lauren does. But sometimes she could annoy me just slightly. Another thing I really can't get my head around is the world Sarah has created. As I said above, it made the mosts of sense in my head. But just as far as looks go. Don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand this world.

Going through a dust storm Lauren somehow gets herself in the city Lost. She gets to know a lot of people, even almost having a relationship with the Finder called Peter. When Lauren is in this city <which she is for a long time>  I got the feeling this world was real. Eventhough I found myself wondering " How could there be a city in which people find what their lost and go to this special person 'the missing man' to get back to their lives out of the city.  And how would they do this, going into another city and returning.  Some people were there for a couple of years. Does their live stop when they end up in Lost?" When Lauren get's out of Lost and she ends up laying in a coma in the same hospital as her mother, I really didn't understand it anymore. Sarah Beth Durst makes us think that this city Lost is imaginary. Lauren would have been in a dream, a dream that seems so real. Maybe this city will make more sense in the second book? 

At the end of the book I really wanted to continue with the series, I wanted to know more about Lauren. About Peter and Claire. I recommend getting both book one "the Lost" and two "the Missing" when entering this new lovely world. Totally loved this book. The characters, the concept and the writing. Defenitely check this series out if you haven't already!
